SoCal NOFAS, the Southern California state affiliate of NOFAS, is dedicated to raising community awareness about fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). We offer support and resources to pregnant women as well as to families and individuals that have been affected by an FASD. We have partnered with UCSD and Rady Children’s Hospital to offer training, resources, and referrals to families in the Southern California region. We also offer a monthly parent support group in San Diego.

Dr. Graham’s background in public health, communication disorders, developmental pediatrics and dysmorphology has helped to branch his research into a wide variety of medical conditions that lead to developmental disabilities. He also has a research interests in various teratologic disorders and craniofacial disorders, such as craniosynostosis, plagiocephaly, cleft lip and palate, hemifacial microsomia and microtia. He also, diagnoses FAS. Additional research interests include the genetics of mental retardation and common birth defect syndromes. He has written well over 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and recently revised his book, Smith’s Recognizable Patterns of Human Deformation.

The Center for Behavioral Teratology is a University-recognized research center focused on the effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol and other developmental disabilities. We partner here with mental health services, social workers and lawyers from Children’s Alliance to meet all the needs of our FAS children. Perinatal treatment services in California continue to grow and currently serve over 37,000 women and 56,000 children annually. In May 2007, Director Rene Zito announced an expansion of the previous Office of Perinatal Substance Abuse (OPSA) with the establishment of the Office of Women’s and Perinatal Services (OWPS). Ms. Zito explained that OWPS marks “the beginning of many enhancements to improve alcohol and other drug (AOD) services for women of all ages, their children, and their families.”
