Milestones and Accomplishments 1990-2010

1990 – NOFAS incorporated in South Dakota by Patti Munter

1991 – NOFAS Information and Resource Clearinghouse established

1992 – NOFAS hosts first ever international FASD conference in Minneapolis

1993 – Television movie Healing the Broken Cord starring Jimmy Smits airs for first time

1993 – Senator Ted Kennedy hosts first NOFAS fundraising event at his home featuring

            entertainer Carole King

1994 – NOFAS medical school curriculum launched at the University of New Mexico

1994 – Entertainers Bonnie Raitt and Queen Latifah appear in television PSA for NOFAS

1996 – Tom and Linda Daschle headline first NOFAS Leadership Awards Benefit

1997 – Senator Tom Daschle and Jimmy Smits appear in NOFAS PSA

1998 – Washington, D.C. area FASD support group founded

1998 – NOFAS hosts youth summit in New Orleans with teens from twenty-seven states

1999 – Comprehensive Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Prevention Act Enacted

2001 – NOFAS Affiliate Network established

2004 – NOFAS Circle of Hope FASD birth mother’s network founded

2004 – Congressional Caucus on FASD founded

2005 – Award-winning episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit featuring FASD is

            broadcast

2005 – U.S. Surgeon General re-issues advisory for women to abstain from alcohol when

            pregnant or if considering a pregnancy

2005 – Tom and Linda Daschle FASD Hall of Fame founded

2005 – Women in Film produces award-winning television public service announcement for

            NOFAS

2006 – NOFAS initiates first alcohol screening project in Community Health Centers

2007 – NOFAS presents 1,000th FASD workshop or seminar

2008 – NOFAS clearinghouse assists 100,000th FASD consumer

2009 – NOFAS K-12 curriculum presented in nearly 50 school districts nationally
