The Arctic FASD Regional Training Center is now offering FASD training to community professionals, students, parents and caregivers, and all other interested members of the public.

Registration is required.

Please register by noon on the Thursday prior to the scheduled workshop. Workshops with fewer than five registrants may be subject to cancellation. On-site registrations will be accepted on a space available basis. Maximum number of registrants per training is 12.

Continuing education (CE) credit form.

(Please note, if you wish to receive continuing education (CE) credits, you will need to complete and submit the continuing education credit form, along with the $25.00 CE processing fee.)

Continuing Education Credits and Contact Hours

Continuing Education (CE) credits or contact hours are available through the UAA Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services (CBHRS).

Participants will be eligible to receive four (4) continuing education (CE) credits or contact hours for the completion of the workshop. The processing fee for these four credits is $25.00.

CBHRS is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CBHRS maintains responsibility for this program and its content. These CE credits may be accepted by licensing boards and for other professional purposes. Please consult with your licensing board to confirm acceptance of these credits.

Please join our expert guest speakers Richard and Muriel Saunders from the University of Kansas as we learn about effective weight loss plans in overweight adults with disabilities.  This webinar will go into detail about methods, results and lessons learned in creating an effective weight loss program.  These research-based programs have been proven to have great success in helping people with disabilities to keep the weight off and decrease obesity-prone health disparities.  We will discuss barriers to eating healthy and strategies to increase consciousness of making healthier long-term eating decisions and how to track that progress.  Join us to hear more about this important topic.

The Arc is starting our series of bi-monthly HealthMeet™ webinars.  These webinars will be featuring guest speakers on an array of health promotion topics and will serve as a platform to disseminate information on valuable ID health related issues to a larger audience to increase awareness.  These webinars are free and open for anyone interested in learning more about health advocacy in individuals with ID.

The HealthMatters™ Program from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) offers various health-related trainings and curricula to help self-advocates, caregivers, families, and health care providers promote health, prevent disease, and foster community engagement of people with disabilities. Different programs are tailored for various audiences including people with disabilities, caregivers, families, and health care providers.

We welcome Beth Marks, RN, PhD and Jasmina Sisirak, PhD, MPH from the Department of Disability and Human Development at UIC to share information regarding the various trainings that are associated with HealthMatters™ Program. One of the trainings will be utilized by The Arc’s five HealthMeet™ pilot sites to develop and implement a health promotion program in their communities. Nurse Practitioner, Leone Murphy, from The Arc of New Jersey, will present information on one of The Arc of New Jersey’s health promotion projects, Prevent, Understand, and Live with Diabetes.   Leone has presented seminars on this topic for self advocates, staff and caregivers.  She has helped to develop a Diabetes workbook and DVD — written for self-advocates and caregivers — that addresses the areas of prevention, diagnosis, symptoms, diet and treatment for individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This diabetes booklet and a DVD (in English and Spanish) are available from The Arc of NJ at no charge.   These materials were developed with funding from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey.
