“I used cocaine and I drank my whole nine months of pregnancy with my 7-year-old son. I am here today to get help for my son.”

Cards for a Cause: November 10th New York City
                  Fundraiser to Benefit NOFAS

On Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the Battery Gardens Restaurant in Battery Park, NOFAS will host “Cards for a Cause” a Texas Hold 'Em Poker tournament to raise money to fight Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

The first-ever NOFAS New York event will feature four-star cuisine and fantastic live and silent auction items. The top three finishers will win great prizes, including a 32” high definition flat screen TV for the winner! Tickets are tax deductible and are $300 to play in the tournament and $150 for dinner guests only. To RSVP or for more information contact NOFAS at cardsforacause@nofas.org.

"We're very pleased to have such a great event in New York where poker players can enjoy themselves and learn about the critical issue of fetal alcohol syndrome," said NOFAS President Tom Donaldson.  "So many fine organizations - from five-star hotels to professional sports teams - have generously donated items in an effort to make this event a success.  We're very appreciative."

The National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is the nation's top educational resource on the issue of fetal alcohol syndrome, the leading preventable cause of mental retardation and birth defects.  The November 10th Cards for A Cause event in Battery Park, like NOFAS' recent press conference in Los Angeles featuring former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, is part of an ongoing effort to provide the public with information on the dangers of drinking during pregnancy.
