NOFAS and the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) Oppose the National Uniformity for Food Act of 2005 (HR. 4167)

CSPI and NOFAS issued a joined letter opposing the National Uniformity for Food Act of 2005 because it would pre-empt local and food safety and labeling laws.  These groups are concerned that it would also remove posted warning signs in areas where alcohol is sold and served about alcohol use during pregnancy.  Currently 19 states are required to post signs by law.  The bill passed in the House of Representatives last March 2006 and has moved to the Senate.  The letter of opposition may be viewed at: http://www.cspinet.org/booze/2006/HR4167.pdf
