“My experience leads me to suggest that if there was one thing that I could do, I would just make sure that all physicians had training in fetal alcohol syndrome and its effects. It would alleviate a lot of frustration for a lot of families, including ours.”

BEER FIRM TOASTS WARNINGS

An Alberta beer is promoting darn fine social consciousness.

Beginning immediately, cans, kegs and bottles manufactured by Calgary's
Mountain Crest Brewing Company will sport labels warning of the pitfalls of
alcohol consumption.

Mountain Crest founder Ravinder Minhas, a 23-year-old Albertan native,
believes the bold initiative - which flies in the face of industry
opposition to warning labels - is responsible marketing.

"It was being resisted by the industry, and I didn't understand why," said
Minhas, who's paid a cost of nearly $60,000 to have the labels printed on
his products - a Canadian first.

The warning in white, highlighted letters around the bottom, red band of
Mountain Crest cans reads: 'Please drink responsibly. Never Drink and
Drive. If you are pregnant, avoid alcohol.'

"If I can stop one person who's pregnant from drinking or someone from
drinking and driving, it's well worth the cost," Minhas said.

"We need to be responsible as citizens of this country, so I would
encourage my competition to follow."
